Bluestorm’s WiME campaign scoops silver at PR industry awards
To be recognised at such a prestigious event is a great achievement and, in an evening dominated by Leeds and Sheffield organisations, we were proud to be representing Hull and East Yorkshire.
WiME was created to address the shortage of women engineers in the Humber region, which reflects a national issue – just 9% of the UK engineering workforce and 6% of registered engineers and technicians are female. WiME aims to inspire women to choose a career in manufacturing and engineering.
Although it’s fantastic to scoop an award for our efforts, the real achievement is the results the initiative is generating. In just 12 months, eight women were recruited through the scheme and have taken up roles at some of the region’s largest companies including Swift Group, Siemens Gamesa and Airco Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Limited.
Bluestorm supported Green Port Hull by producing WiME marketing materials, managing advertising and helping to organise two careers events. We also raised awareness of WiME with strong media relations and social media campaigns.
We’ll be working on Green Port Hull to plan and promote the next event in March 2018 – so watch this space!
