By ‘eck, we did it!
7.45am on a cold, dreary November morning is never a particularly inspiring time of day. But waking up to the news that our darling city of Hull has been crowned the City of Culture for 2017 has certainly put a spring in the step for us folk here at Bluestorm!
Bid supporters packed into Hull Truck Theatre this morning to hear the announcement from Culture Minster Maria Miller – and their cheers raised the roof when she revealed that Hull had beaten rival contenders Leicester, Dundee and Swansea Bay to clinch the title.
The victory means the city will stage a £12m programme of arts and cultural events during 2017, including 25 major festivals, as well as spectacular opening and closing ceremonies. The programme will include more than 1,500 individual events and 12 artists’ residencies, too, to transform Hull into the country’s cultural hub.
Well done to all the team behind the bid who have made this possible – roll on #2017Hull!
