We’re chuffed to meet… Cath, our new PR Consultant
We are delighted to announce that we’ve boosted our award-winning PR team with the addition of our very own resident rail enthusiast and museum geek Cath Farrell. We found out a little more about our brand-new colleague as she finishes her second week.
What will your role at Bluestorm entail?
As part of the PR team at Bluestorm, copywriting is very much a core skill and I pride myself on having quite a way with words! I really appreciate an impactful PR event and I can’t wait to come up with creative new ideas for PR activity for Bluestorm’s wide-ranging portfolio of clients.
How did you get into PR?
An English literature graduate, I started my career as a copywriter at the Press Association before breaking into PR at Beattie Leeds, copywriting for a broad spectrum of clients.
An in-house role beckoned, and I spent nine years heading up the PR team at the National Railway Museum in York. Memorable campaigns there included The Railway Children, Churchill’s Final Journey, the museum’s Churchill 2015 celebrations, Mallard 75 and unsurprisingly Trainspotting, which revealed the world’s first trainspotter was a Victorian teenage girl called Fanny Johnson. Three of these involved massive steam locos moving through the museum and are responsible for the odd grey hair on my head!
More recently, I headed up the small communications team at Hull University Union.
What has been your proudest career moment to date?
Although it was the longest working day ever, starting at 4am at London Kings Cross, it was seeing the world’s media (including news helicopters) turning up for the media event for Flying Scotsman’s inaugural run. Although it was a rollercoaster ride, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to join 30 journalists on board this symbolic first journey after a multi-million-pound restoration.
When you’re not at work, what do you get up to?
I love curling up on the sofa with a good book and eating out as much as possible! My two children keep me just a tad busy, but I do enjoy meeting up with friends or a trip to the cinema to see the latest Marvel blockbuster.
