Living With Water is a partnership between Yorkshire Water, Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the Environment Agency, and the University of Hull, working to build flood resilience, promote sustainable water management, and highlight Hull and the East Riding as a great place to live and work.

Brief

Living With Water asked us to deliver a full-service marketing programme to raise awareness of flood risks, promote practical resilience measures and support innovative water management projects across Hull and the East Riding. Our role was to create clear, empathetic campaigns, manage their digital presence, engage stakeholders, and inspire local communities to act.

Outcome

We delivered Be Flood Aware, a recognisable campaign brand that increased community engagement with flood resilience messages. Website usability and SEO improved, social media reach grew through targeted activity, and a robust database was built for ongoing communications – helping Living With Water inform, involve, and inspire communities across Hull and the East Riding.

Created clear, accessible and sensitive messaging reflecting the community’s past flooding experiences. Produced press releases, articles and website copy to share key projects and flood protection updates. Content was tailored for homeowners, businesses and wider stakeholders, and distributed across multiple channels to maximise impact. 

Delivered strategic, integrated campaigns combining digital, print, PR, and event promotion. Ensured consistent messaging across all touchpoints, driving awareness of flood risks, sustainable drainage schemes, and involvement in major regional initiatives such as The Waterline Summit.

Design

Created the Be Flood Aware sub-brand to clearly communicate flood resilience messages. Produced iconography, infographics, printed materials, signage and animated videos, along with photography to bring campaigns to life. All assets aligned with the main Living With Water identity to ensure a consistent and recognisable visual presence.

Digital Marketing

Planned, created and managed targeted campaigns across Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Delivered a strategic blend of organic content and geo-targeted paid adverts to drive website visits, flood alert sign-ups and community event attendance. Conducted regular UX and SEO audits, making data-led improvements to site design, structure and content. Optimisation work increased search visibility, user engagement and conversion rates, supporting both campaign goals and evaluation.

In the last year compared to the previous year, we have seen an increase of 79.05% in key events. A primary objective was to increase conversions on the site. The increase in key events shows more users are converting and completing key events.

One of the main objectives for the site was to get users to request water butts to increase water and flood safety in Hull.  We can see that we have increased water butt request forms by 172.62% in the last year.
