How to use Algolia

Bluestorm Watermark

If the search function on your website uses Algolia, we want you to make the most out of this subscription.

First things first – make sure you have your Algolia login details ready. Once you're in, you can start making the most of what Algolia has to offer. Each member of your team can have their own login, so we strongly encourage marketing teams to explore the dashboards and tap into the valuable data and insights available.

The key areas to view:

After logging in, you’ll be redirected to the Overview page. This gives you a snapshot of top-level insights, but we recommend heading straight to the Search section to dive straight into the data!

Once in Search, make sure you're viewing the correct Index. Use the Index dropdown to select the dataset you want to explore – for example, Pages, Courses, News, Policies or others. Essentially, any section of your website with a search bar will have its own specific Index.

In Configure > Index, you’ll see a stripped-down version of your search page – no styling, just filters and results in the order they appear on your site. You can search terms here and see exactly how they’re reflected on the live site.

Head to Observe > Analytics to get a clear view of how users are finding (or not finding) your content.

A particularly useful section is 'Searches without results'. Set a date range and take note of any recurring search terms that return no matches. Don’t forget to check this for each Index type.

This data shows what your visitors are looking for but not finding, as you don’t have any pages matching their search terms, so no relevant pages for them to visit. Use these insights to guide content decisions – whether that’s creating new pages or updating existing ones.

If you notice frequent 'no result' terms in the Count column, it might also be worth renaming pages so they better align with user searches.
