Welcoming tomorrow’s talent with Ron Dearing UTC students

Bluestorm Watermark

At Bluestorm, we’re always keen to support young people looking to explore careers in marketing, design, and communications. That’s why we recently welcomed two students from Ron Dearing UTC – Spencer and Keely – for a week of work experience.

From their first day, they embraced the pace of agency life, supported our teams on live projects, and gained first-hand insight into what it means to work in a creative and collaborative environment.

Spencer’s time with us was focused on organisation and internal processes. He played a key role in helping file documents such as invoices and bank statements, giving him insight into the financial management and managing deadlines effectively. He also supported our teams by preparing work-in-progress reports for different departments – gaining confidence and skills in using Microsoft Excel.

He commented: “Helping with filing and preparing reports gave me a real understanding of how important organisation and keeping on top of tasks is in a professional setting. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere at Bluestorm made it easier to focus and stay motivated, which I know will be valuable skills when I leave the UTC and embark on a career.”

Keely spent her week developing content for real campaigns, including two newsletters and social media posts for clients. Through this, Keely gained hands-on experience in persuasive writing and engaging design, as well as insight into what it takes to shape compelling messaging across platforms.

“Working on e-marketing campaigns and social media plans showed me how to communicate effectively and engage an audience. The supportive and social culture at Bluestorm made the whole experience enjoyable and taught me the value of working in a positive team environment – something I’m sure will help me in my future career,” said Keely.

Both Spencer and Keely were a pleasure to host, and a credit to Ron Dearing UTC. They approached their placements with enthusiasm and professionalism, and we hope the skills and confidence they gained will stay with them as they move forward in their careers!
